Character Data:
Name:
Gerald (Jerry) Raymond Phillips
Alias:
Badger
Age:
26
Sex:
Male
Race:
Human, with computerized enhancements
Occupation:
Computer Geek / Superhero (used to work at a comic book shop until his
recently acquired (and very ironic) superhero status forced him to
quit.)
From:
Earth, New York
Physical Stats:
Height:
6'6"
Weight:
146 lbs.
Appearance:
Badger sticks out like a sore thumb. He is really tall and excessively
lanky, thin as a rail, coupled with a computer geek's tan and a sharp,
pointed beard, curving up towards the sky. His hair is longer in the
front than it is in the back, and it juts out severely from his scalp.
The rest of his hair is messy and unkempt, with a seemingly permanent
case of bedhead.. He has big, bright green eyes, a big goofy nose and a
big dopey smile, all of which are instantly recognizable as his. His
get-up is no more inconspicuous: A deep green semi-formal dress shirt,
buttoned up but untucked and uncuffed, that is somehow three sizes too
big for him. Underneath that shirt, he wears a white and blue baseball
jersey, emblazoned with the famous Commodore 64 insignia. Around his
frayed collar, he wears an unrealistically large, very wide black tie
that almost hides the entire width of his torso. He has on wide-legged,
almost bell-bottomed blue jeans, with black high-top converse chuck
taylors, well worn-in and dirtied up. He has on under those shoes a pair
of the old blue and yellow-striped tube socks, pulled straight up to
three-quarters of his calf. His left shoe's toe has seperated from the
sole, and it has been wrapped with duct tape to keep it together. He
wears a peculiar black watch that gives the time in hexadecimal format,
and beeps every hour on the hour with an exact tone of seven-thousand,
seven-hundred and seventy-seven hertz. He has on a pair of Mario Bros.
underoos too, in case you wanted to know...
Miscellaneous: Badger is 100% ambidexterous.
Other Info:
ISH-O-Vision
Color: limegreen (#32CD32)
Personality:
Warm and receptive, yet eccentric and awkward. Badger is a 26-year-old
geek, a throwback to the days of old, where Atari reigned supreme, nigh
unchallenged, in the world of gaming... earlier, when databases relied
on reels of magnetic tape to store their important data, and hard disk
storage was merely a rumor... a much, much simpler time for all geekdom.
He has a serious side that rarely shows itself, until he has something
or someone to defend. He's a natural hero, risking himself to save
others, striving to do what's good and right, and never ever giving into
the dark, sultry temptations of evil. Badger is, most of the time, a
nutcase, with little rhyme to reason, and recent events have only
further accentuated this aspect of his personality. Random topics come
from nowhere in conversation, as if swiped from the air like so much
dandelion fluff. He has trouble remebering things, due to a horrible
scatterbrainedness that tends to follow super-genius around like Lennie
follows George. With a base IQ of 250, and a heightened, almost infinite
IQ due to certain enhancements, Badger is incredibly intelligent.
However, unlike most brainiacs, he is not snide in the least about his
smarts. He treats everyone as if they were his own flesh and blood,
never talking down to anyone, and will never attack anyone unprovoked.
While he can fight, and fight well, thanks to his invention, he hates to
do so, and would rather solve things with words and reason, rather than
with brute force. All in all, Badger is a
geek-turned-hero-yet-still-remains-a-geek stereotype, stock off the
shelf... well... maybe not...

(NON-BOTP)- None of consequence.
Background:
Badger is a computer geek with a thing for classic games. You probably
already know this much. Well, one day, he bumped his head and came up
with a rather amazing machine. This machine, dubbed the Data-String
Actualizer, or DSA for short, could translate strings of code, no matter
which language it was written in, and convert it into a special code
that could be applied to the laws of physics and in the end, make the
code into reality. The applications for the DSA were endless. Anything
from beer to rocket launchers could be programmed into the DSA and
turned into real, tangible objects. the coded beer would get you plenty
drunk, just like real beer, and the coded rocket launcher could blow
stuff up, just like a real rocket launcher. Even things of science
fiction and fantasy could become reality. The DSA could bend and
sometimes break the laws of physics, making mother nature it's bitch and
taking hold of reality, shaping it for itself. Badger used video games
as a primary source for code, naturally, and things such as flight,
telepathy, and even teleportation became possible. A near-limitless
cache of weaponry from all across the game spectrum was available,
swords and shotguns alike. Hell, he could code a sword-shotgun if he
wanted to. The DSA enabled Badger to become somewhat of a superhero,
giving him powers no human naturally had. Using his newfound abilities,
Badger saved the city of Schenectady, New York from many evils that
lurked in its many shadows. He remained anonymous, however, and never
revealed to anyone but his closest friends the powers he had obtained,
and the feats he had performed. The DSA was even capable of creating
life, it seemed... Animals, ranging from the miniscule to the mastadonic,
could be brought into existance. Humans were even possible, as Badger
actualized a little-known but favorite game hero of his to aid him in
his deeds. His doings became more daring, and his powers took him
farther, to places he'd never have dreamed he would have gone. Through
his hunt of an evil force driven greedy by the promise of a universe to
control, Badger ended up in an intergalactic tournament of sorts, where
he made new friends and new enemies alike. He died protecting one of his
new friends on a planet named Bob, with few but important witnesses to
his death. This friend, a cybernetic girl named Ambrosia but who went by
the name Spam, won this tournament, and claimed her prize, which was a
single wish. Her wish was to revive all who lost their lives from in the
tournament, but her focus was on Badger. He did her a favor, so she gave
him one back. The only problem was where Badger was revived. As if the
name of a planet was drawn from some ethereal hat, Badger was revived on
a strange jungle planet, where he seemed to be deserted for what seemed
like years, but was in reality only a month or so. He managed to send a
telepathic message to his friend that was borne from the DSA, who he had
named Raven. Raven came for him in a point-a-to-point-b space ship,
worse for wear, that barely made it back to Earth. Badger wasn't the
same, though... he had somehow changed. Little did his friends know,
Badger had picked up a cerebral parasite on that forsaken jungle planet,
and it was eating away at his mind. In less than a week, Badger was
comatose. In a last ditch effort to find out what happened to him, his
friends took him across the galaxy to a civilized, highly-advanced
planet near the jungle planet he was so rudely dropped off on by the
universe itself. They visited a doctor there, who told them exactly what
was wrong with Badger. Due to the rather touching scene following, the
doctor decided to perform a rather expensive operation on him free of
charge, since they came such a long way, and seemed to care for Badger
so much. Badger's parasite was exterminated, and his brain was repaired
with superprocessor technology intended for use in cyborgs. As a part of
the surgery, nanomachines were injected into Badger's bloodstream. Also,
due to a request from his friends, Badger's DSA machine was shrunk down
and integrated into his superprocessors, allowing him to tap the ability
at will. He now thought in code, able to calculate complex problems in
mere picoseconds, with a super-heightened memory and IQ. The
nanomachines increased Badger's healing abilities by a thousand-fold,
allowing him to heal large wounds in hours. Along with his new abilities
came one special one, one that was not expected at all. Coupling his
code-originated telepathy with his superprocessors, Badger could
broadcast code as if using a wireless link-up from his brain. He could
command and control computers and computerized machinery merely by
thought, able to hack into systems simply by thinking the code. Quite an
amazing ability, one unprecedented even by the most learned and
experienced doctors on the planet. Badger could feel a kindred spirit in
the air, one he had not seen for a while. He felt Spam's presence, as if
she was there, but somehow invisible. Returning to Earth and bidding
farewell to his friends once again, e followed this signal like a
wardriver, tracking her all over the galaxy. Finally, his search ended
on a bleak, desolate planet, ravaged by senseless destruction. He had no
idea why Spam would be here, but he just had to find her. He didn't know
why, but he felt she was important to his destiny, like they were
connected in some greater way that even he couldn't comprehend...
Character Abilities:
Skills:
Badger is adept at hacking (hell, he can hack computer systems
telepathically, if that says anything), and is also a very skilled
mechanic. He can fix anything with nuts, bolts, circuitboards or
switches. Besides that, he has an almost infinite amount of practical
skills. He can speak in over 300 languages, Earthen and alien. He can
read data on magnetic tape, compact disc or other mediums just by
looking at it closely. He can even control the flow of electrons in an
electrical conduit by touch and touch alone. Badger is a walking,
talking, singing, dancing, grinning supercomputer with a big, stupid
tie. He has telekinetic and telepathic abilities, as well as the ability
to fly with ease, the ability to hold his breath in excess of 90 minutes
underwater, and the ability to heal from the most amazing damage. Broken
bones, dismembered limbs... hell, his entire body could be destroyed and
as long as his brain remains, his entire body would reconstruct itself
in less than a week, as long as he was kept in some sort of holding tank
or something so nothing happened to the brain. Badger's nanomachines
protect him from most all poisons, venoms, diseases and viruses, and
they reproduce themselves at a rapid rate if their numbers suddenly
drop. They will last forever, making Badger somewhat of an immortal,
doomed to be 26 years old for all eternity... or until someone blows his
head off.
Armament:
Badger has a huge supply of weaponry to choose from, but he usually
sticks to a few choice weapons. For his primary weapon, he uses a sword
from the game Phantasy Star Online called the Lavis Cannon, a beam
weapon that can fire a wave of energy from its blade when swung. If he
needs range, Badger prefers the versatility of Samus Aran's Arm Cannon,
which he equips by sinking his hand into the cuff of his sleeve, at
which point the cannon shoots out with a nifty little "SHA-SHINK!"
sound. He can use the beams from all the Metroid games, but prefers the
Super Metroid weaponry, and the Hyper Beam especially, for obvious
reasons. When he doesn't need the extreme firepower of the Hyper Beam,
he will use Super Metroid Plasma Beam and sometimes the game's Super
Missiles as well. Badger is also known to use magic spells from several
role-playing games, such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior and the like.
He favors the lightning elemental, and tends to use those spells most of
all.
Protection:
Badger wears normal cotton and denim attire, none of which is ideal for
defense. However, given his integral DSA abilities, he can make armor to
wear, and shields to protect him. He prefers more high-tech defensive
systems, opting for force fields and the like over the typical physical
kind of armor. Badger has an abnormally resilient skull, able to sustain
severe amounts of trauma without as much as minor dizzyness. Due to his
superprocessors, his signals of pain no longer physically hurt him, but
rather occur to him as a flat, intermittent beeping sound that increases
in volume and speed the closer he comes to going unconscious. This
allows him to sustain injuries and keep on fighting without being
hindered by blinding pain. However, a signal sent DIRECTLY to the pain
center of his brain and not through synapse still registers as pain, and
Badger can be rendered immobile and potentially unconscious from a
strong enough signal.
Style:
Badger has almost no style whatsoever. He uses his swords, guns, and
whatever else to attack his enemies, and prefers to use weapons and
spells over bare fists. However, if it comes down to mano y mano, Badger
can summon up almost any martial art, real or fake. He prefers to use
the Yagami Style Martial Arts and Instinct, which, for you who haven't
ever played King of Fighters or Capcom vs. SNK, is a style comprising
mainly of swiping claw attacks, high kicks, and a curious purple flame
energy that he can throw in the form of a fireball that rides on the
ground, a twirling inferno surrounding him, or a large explosion from
his hand or hands. It takes any DSA-related even about two to five
seconds to occur, depending on the size and power of whatever he is
actualizing. All of this power and potential is not without its limit,
of course... Badger's abilities are precariously balanced on the
stability of his superprocessors... as advanced as they are, they can
overwork themselves and become unstable. If he does too much mental work
without resting, he could crash... which means that Badger becomes a
statue-like vegetable, frozen in whatever pose he last made. His face
becomes stuck in place, in a usually very silly and unsettling grimace,
accompanied by mismatched eyes, one larger than the other, the smaller
without pupil or iris whatsoever. He is completely unconscious in this
state, and is essentially a big, clumsy doorstop with not much more use
than that. The only way he can be "rebooted" back to normal is by...
jumper cables. That, or a strong electrical stream or jolt that can
kickstart his superprocessors and get him going again. The
superprocessors are delicate chips... it is easy to glitch them with
even the slightest electrical jolt. A static spark can cause him to
receive and broadcast FM radio waves, dated depending on his location in
the galaxy. He would stand, mouth wide open, in a trance-like state, for
minutes or so. Sometimes, noting but static comes from him under these
circumstances. Larger jolts, however, seem to not effect the
superprocessors at all. It's the small ones that mess with him.
Mode 1:
The superprocessors in Badger's head have a unique, unconscious ability.
Combined with the brainwaves and chemical combinations produced by his
mind, the chips can be triggered in a way to unlock a power, like a
switch being flipped from off to on, that transforms Badger into a being
of pure energy. He glows a violent green, his hair stands on end and the
details of his face and body melt away, becoming an intense silhouette
of himself. His eyes offset the rest of him, shining pure white through
the surrounding green. He speaks (or screams, rather) in data noise, the
beepy-boopy staticy noise that your modem makes when dialing, or that
your fax makes when someone calls its phone line. His speed, power,
endurance and agility increase by billions of times. He moves at the
speed of light normally, with the ability to surpass the speed of light,
enabling him to travel into the future by short periods of time. He is
invulnerable to all physical attack forms, and only plasmatic or
electrical force can do him any harm. He can attack at a dizzying rate
of 512 sword swipes per minute, or 1024 punches/kicks per minute. He is
almost invulnerable simply from his precognitave ability to dodge and
counter at the exact next nanosecond. However, once Mode 1 is initated,
it is doomed to self-terminate in 24 hours. This means that once Badger
goes into Mode 1, he will die in a day. Mode 1 can't be "turned off" or
stopped in any way once it's executed. It lasts for 24 hours and he dies
at the end of the 24 hours, no ifs, ands or buts. Mode 1 is more or less
just for my use, if and when Badger makes it to Nex and if Nex changes
back into his superdemon form, so you really don't need to worry about
any of this...
